Self-care is an essential part of everyone’s life, at least it should be. The challenge arises when one has to practice self-care. Practicing self-care can take various forms, ranging from painting, cooking, and exercising, to simply being more forgiving towards yourself. While it is still easy to incorporate self-care practices into your daily life, it can be a challenge to love and care for yourself when things get hard.
When you are not hearing back from any of the hundreds of jobs you applied to or you are not doing well in school or when a loved one is sick, practicing self-care becomes tough. You feel like you can not allow yourself to relax, or go easy on yourself because there’s something wrong in your life. It becomes almost as if you are holding onto a cactus. You can simply let go of the cactus, but you believe that you deserve to hold onto the cactus. Letting go of the cactus is difficult, there is no doubt about that. Nonetheless, it is crucial to let go of the cactus. For it will make it easier to get through the rough patches in your life.
The first step in practicing self-care is to be forgiving and kind towards yourself. It is perfectly fine if you are not hearing back from the jobs you applied to. You did everything you could from writing the perfect cover letter, to preparing with your peers for interviews. So, if you did not hear back it is not your fault; there is nothing that you could have done! It takes practice to inculcate this form of self-care, but continuous practice makes perfect! Other ways to care for yourself include regular exercise. It can be done in any form, just as long as you move your body. Along with that make sure to keep yourself hydrated and eat well. Before you know it, you will be back to living your best life!
